‘Dutch around the World’: Jaap Jacobs is international historian with research experience in archives in the Netherlands, the UK, and the US. He has consulted on museum exhibitions, tv documentaries, archaeological excavations, educational games, and other public history projects relating to the Dutch overseas expansion in the early-modern era, specifically on the colony of New Netherland (now New York). He has published widely on the Dutch in America and regularly gives lectures and talks on both sides of the Atlantic.

Recent projects:

  • Consultant and researcher for the Atlas of Dutch America, New Holland Foundation, Amsterdam, 2011 to date.
  • Co-editor and advisor on Gajus Scheltema and Heleen Westerhuijs (eds.), Exploring Historic Dutch New York. New York: Dover Publications, 2011.
  • Translator and editor of Samuel van Hoogstraten, Introduction to the Academy of Painting for the Getty Foundation, Los Angeles, May 2011 to date.
  • Curatorial consultant on the exhibition Amsterdam/New Amsterdam: The Worlds of Henry Hudson, organized by the Museum of the City of New York, 2007 to 2009.
