Mijn werk wordt steevast geroemd om de leesbaarheid (‘leest als een roman’, ‘wat een boeiend boek!’) en de verrassende onderzoeksresultaten. Dit komt doordat ik altijd op zoek ga naar de ‘juweeltjes’ in de geschiedenis en naar een juiste balans tussen ‘leering ende vermaeck’ (óók bij zakelijke klanten!).

Ik woon en werk in Amsterdam, op fietsafstand van het Stadsarchief Amsterdam, het NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies, het Atria en het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis (IISG). Ook ben ik als extern onderzoeker actief voor het Nationaal Archief in Den Haag, waar ik bijvoorbeeld onderzoek kan doen in het Centraal Archief Bijzondere Rechtspleging (CABR).
Eerdere opdrachtgevers waren – naast particulieren en families uit het binnen- en buitenland – onder andere de Amsterdamse Universiteits-Vereniging, de ING Bank, Turien & Co., de Opleiding tot Oefentherapeut Mensendieck, Van Leeuwen Zwanenburg Sloopwerken BV (bekroond met het predicaat Hofleverancier) en het assurantiekantoor DDW Group.
Achtergrond
Rogier Overman is sinds 2001 actief als historicus en heeft onder andere boeken geschreven over de geschiedenis van drie voorlopers van de ING Bank (de Postbank, Rijkspostpaarbank en Postcheque- en Girodienst) en dan specifiek tijdens en vlak na de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Tegenwoordig schrijft hij vooral familieboeken voor (ondernemers)families en doet hij korte onderzoeksopdrachten voor onder andere mensen uit het buitenland met Nederlandse roots.
Overman is een bekroond historicus die uitstekend in staat is complexe materie toegankelijk te maken voor een breed publiek. Zijn specialisaties zijn bedrijfsgeschiedenis, ondernemersgeschiedenis, familiegeschiedenis, medische geschiedenis en de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Historian in Amsterdam
I live and work in Amsterdam, within cycling distance of the Amsterdam City Archive, the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and the International Institute of Social History (IISG). I am also active as an external researcher for the National Archive in The Hague, where I can, for example, conduct research in the Central Archive for Special Jurisdiction (CABR). The CABR contains files on some 300,000 people who were suspected of collaborating with the Germans during the Second World War in the Netherlands.
Previous clients include – besides individuals and families from the Netherlands and abroad –the Amsterdam University Association, ING Bank, Turien & Co., the Mensendieck Therapy Training school in Amsterdam, a 125 years old demolition compony (awarded the title Purveyor to the Royal Household), and the international working insurance office DDW Group.
Background
Rogier Overman has been active as a historian since 2001 and has written books about the history of three predecessors of ING Bank, specifically during and just after the Second World War. Nowadays, he mainly writes family books for (entrepreneurial) families and carries out short research assignments for people from all over the world with Dutch roots. For them, he set up the website www.dutchfamilyroots.com.
